Our Mother’s Keeper

The plaintiff says the defendant is his sister. After their mother abandoned them as children, he started using marijuana and eventually crack cocaine. He claims that after getting clean, he moved in with their elderly mother and was supposed to be paid by the state to care for her, but says the defendant refuses to file the necessary paperwork. He is suing for lost income. The defendant admits she rebelled when she was younger but says she never used drugs and went on to become a successful hairstylist. She is countersuing for defamation, saying her brother falsely accused her of neglecting to feed their mother in an attempt to gain guardianship.
